The Highland Heart
01. The Brief
The name Moonlight originates from a rare single lineage in Angus, Scotland. This project was commissioned to explore how that rugged, northern grit could be translated into a modern architectural sanctuary.
The client required a space that felt ancient yet engineered—a landscape that could withstand the elements while offering a cinematic transition into the 19:00 dusk hour.
Material Palette
Gritstone flags, R11 Anti-Slip Charcoal Porcelain, and hand-charred Western Red Cedar screening.
Lighting Physics
Strict 2700K Ultra-Warm LED fixtures with 15-degree narrow beam spots for architectural shadows.
Digital Output
Complete 3D Digital Twin with forensic level-mapping to accommodate a 1:40 site gradient.
02. The Digital Twin
Using Floorplanner, we constructed a forensic model of the terrain. We simulated the sun's path across the 56th parallel, ensuring the seating zone was positioned to catch the final amber glow of the Highland summer.
Every step, manhole, and utility constraint was mapped into the virtual model, allowing for a "Walkthrough Before You Build" experience that eliminated design regret.
Output: 3D Cinematic Blueprint
03. The Handover
The final "Contractor's Bible" included scaled 2D CAD plans and a precise Latin planting schedule suited for Highland hardiness zones.
The result is a testament to the Architecture of Stillness—a garden that feels rooted in Scottish history but functions with 2026 technical sophistication.
Result: The Nocturnal Sanctuary
